Born from first-hand experience of how difficult it was to coordinate funeral arrangements across a large, spread-out family, TributePoint was built to help South African families share funeral details quickly and preserve the memory of loved ones digitally.

What is a digital obituary and how is it different from a newspaper obituary?
A digital obituary is an online tribute page for your loved one that includes their life story, photographs, funeral service details, venue maps, and a way for family and friends to leave condolence messages. Unlike a newspaper obituary, which is limited to a few paragraphs and appears for one day, a digital obituary can be updated anytime, shared instantly via WhatsApp or SMS, and preserved online permanently at no cost.
Is TributePoint really free? What’s the catch?
Yes, TributePoint is genuinely free for families. You can create a full memorial tribute page — with obituary, photos, funeral details, and sharing — at no cost and with no time limits. Free tributes do not currently show advertising. If we introduce it in future, it will be small and respectful, and we will update our Privacy Policy and ask for your consent first. Funeral homes and businesses can optionally choose paid plans with extra branding and team tools.
How long does a tribute page stay online?
Your tribute page stays online indefinitely. There is no expiry date or time limit. We believe that a memorial should last as long as the family wants it to. You can also edit or update the page at any time — adding more photos, updating the obituary text, or changing funeral details as plans evolve.
Can I control who sees the tribute page?
Yes. A public tribute can be viewed by anyone who has the link, and it may also be listed in our public memorials directory, in TributePoint search and in search engines such as Google. A private tribute can only be viewed by you while you are signed in (and by the funeral home, if one created it for you). Anyone else who opens the link sees a notice that the tribute is private. You can change this setting at any time.
How do I share the tribute with my family?
Once you create a tribute, you get a clean, short link like tributepoint.co.za/in-loving-memory-of-john. Copy this link and paste it into any WhatsApp group, SMS, Facebook post, or email. When someone opens the link, they see the full memorial page — beautiful on both mobile and desktop — without needing to download any app or create an account.
Is my family’s personal information safe?
Absolutely. TributePoint uses HTTPS encryption, bcrypt password hashing, and secure server infrastructure. We comply with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
