Funeral Service Live Stream

What can I say about Sandra? I only had the great pleasure of getting to know and help this amazing lady the last few years she had left on this earth. The only regret that I have is that I was not lucky enough to have known her sooner. Sandra was like nobody I have ever met. I grew to love and care for her as if she was family. I truly love and miss my South African Queen. I miss you rest in peace my beautiful friend.
When I think of Sandra, I remember a wonderful friend who was so much more than just a friend. I was her border in her garden flat in SA for many years and that is where I got to know her family, friends, and the beautiful person she was.
I met her mom, who lived with her for a time before moving in with her sister and I met Rean a few times, including when he brought Melissa to meet his mom. Her friends Elna and Elise were also familiar faces who always seemed to be around.
Sandra was like an older sister to me, but also a mother figure who was always there with advice, a listening ear, and a caring heart. We shared many lovely times together, going to the movies, trying new restaurants and of course, window shopping. We could spend hours looking without necessarily buying anything.
One of my favourite memories is the day we tried a new Chinese restaurant. We made a booking under Sandra's name, arrived excited, and then couldn't find our reservation. After some confusion, we spotted a name card on a table that read "Sonara" instead of Sandra. Apparently, her name had taken on a life of its own.
We laughed about that for years. Whenever I wrote her a letter, I would start with "Dear Sonara" to keep the joke alive. It became our own little tradition.
When I returned from working in Europe for three years, I needed somewhere to stay, and Sandra opened her home to me once again. That was Sandra: always there when you needed her, never making a fuss and showing her love through her actions.
When I became ill with a rare type of cancer, she continued to stand by me. Her care, kindness and support meant more than words can express.
Sandra was a loving mother, a loyal friend and a woman who brought warmth, laughter and joy into the lives of those around her. She made people feel that they belonged.
I will miss her dearly, but I will always smile when I think of our adventures, our friendship, and the legendary Sonara.
RIP my friend. Until we meet again.
I cannot seem to find any words in this moment that would be meaningful enough to be of any true comfort to Annatjie and Mischa, her family, nor to and her dear friends here in America, and those precious life-long friends in her beloved South Africa. I sincerely send loving prayers across the miles for you all. Love and prayer knows no boundaries.
And, please know that I treasured Sandra’s friendship and her unconditional love for me in ways I cannot say. I am so grateful for the way she blessed and enriched my life by accepting me “as is” into her “adopted” family here in America. I will always deeply love her. Right now, I’m feeling sort of like I’ve lost another mother. I just wish we’d had more time…💔

What a wonderful, always friendly, spontaneous person she was. Will be missed in love.
